Canada Day & Back in the USA!!

July 1st is Canada Day.  We don't know much about how they celebrate, but I bet they don't do fireworks up here in the forest.  We have seen the damage of many fires.

"The rugged snowcapped peaks of the Kluane Icefield Ranges are Canada's highest & the world's largest nonpolar alpine ice field"  The Milepost -

You can see the icecap to the right of the trees.

Our first stop of the day was Haines Junction.  We were going to Frosty's, but everyone
had the same idea.  There are a couple of camping  groups, but we really don't run into them on the road, mostly at restaurants or campgrounds.

We finally found a deli bakery after missing
our turn, & Siri wasn't a lot of help. She hardly talks up here at all!

Next was the Kluane Museum.  Home of the
biggest gold pan!!

Pic of Kluane Lake

We got into Beaver Creek & were told they were having a pig roast for free, for Canada
Day.  By the time we got over there it was gone.  Oh well!!

It turned from a nice warm sunny day to very overcast & chilly so we ate in the trailer
once again.  We haven't eaten outside between the weather & the bugs at dinner except once.

Today

We first stopped at the International Boundary for Photo ops.

 Very nice thought!!

Yea!! Alaska USA!!

Very twisty thin trees that we don't know the
name of. They grow that way because of the Arctic.

The wildflowers are beautiful.  There are purple & White & yellow are dandelions.  The bears literally mow through the dandelions, eating thousands a day.

A picture of Midway Lake. There are to many creeks, rivers & lakes to count on
the drive to Alaska.

We stopped in Tok, the first real town & had lunch.  We were ordering & I had a glass of Dr. Pepper with ice!!! Can you believe it???
Canada just has bottles or cans of coke at
most restaurants, no ice. I love the USA!!

We made it to the end of the Alaska Highway in Delta Junction.  From now on are many other roads.

Our Certificate for surviving the Highway & boy do we deserve it.

Told you the mosquitos are big!!

We spent the night at Delta State Recreation Area. A pic of our campsite.  Tomorrow we head for Fairbanks.  I probably won't post for a couple of days.
